Safety of Porcilis PRRS - local and systemic reactions
In all the safety trials, very few systemic reactions were observed in vaccinated pigs.
No local reactions are expected following intramuscular injection though rarely, a small scab may be observed for a few days at the vaccination site.
Gross post-mortem examination of the intramuscular injection sites demonstrated only minor haemorrhages and discolouration of the muscle due to the injection itself, for up to 14 days post-vaccination.
Adjuvant - Diluvac Forte
Diluvac Forte is very well tolerated by the tissue at the injection site. The adjuvant is based on dl- alpha tocopherol, vitamin E, a substance known for its antioxidant effects on the cell membranes. This accounts for the lack of local reactions after injection.
A study shows marked differences with in the degree of tissue irritation between two Aujeszky live vaccines based on the same strain but in a different adjuvant. After administration of the vaccine in Diluvac Forte significant lower tissue irritation is observed compared to the situation after administration of the vaccine in oil/water emulsion.
