IDAL

IDAL - Intradermal Application of Liquids

Intradermal application of Porcilis PRRS with IDAL

Advantages of intradermal application

  1. It is postulated that an intra-dermal application via the dendritic cells will give stronger cellular immunity. A recent Italian trial that used peripheral lymphocyte- subpopulations (CD4 and CD8) as a parameter showed a difference in favor of ID application (Borghetti, 2003).
  2. Intra-dermal application is with 0.2 ml Diluvac Forte containing. This is the same antigen dose as in a regular intra-muscular dose, the concentration is thus 10 times higher.
  3. IDAL applies without a needle and therefore has not the risk of PRRS-virus transmission via the needle as described between others by Otake (Otake, 2001).
  4. IDAL circumvents the risk of any absceses in muscle or sub-cutaneous tissue. Especially in small piglets the animal-friendly application is appreciated

All these advantages lead to higher popularity of needle-less and intra-dermal application with IDAL.

Vaccinating with IDAL

When vaccinating with the IDAL, the vaccine is ejected at an average velocity of 96 m/s and with an average pressure on the skin of 46 bar.

The easy use of IDAL is further illustrated in the follwing videos:
